Omega-3 from the deep, blue sea
We come to places like this in search of the world's finest omega-3 oils
Heart --- and a little bit of sole
Fatty acids are the basic building blocks of fats and oils. Omega-3 fatty acids are one family of essential fats that the body converts into hormone-like substances to regulate cell activity and cardiovascular function. Only cold-water oily fish contain two of the most important omega-3 essential fatty acids — eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

That's why the fish in these waters are among your most important allies for good heart health!
Finger on the pulse
There is a tremendous body of evidence showing that daily intakes of EPA plus DHA supports cardiovascular health. Clinical evidence indicates that fish oil EPA and DHA reduce the risk of heart disease, including high cholesterol and high blood pressure. There is also strong evidence that omega-3 essential fatty acids also help inhibit the development of plaque and blood clots, thereby preventing arterial obstruction.

A recent review, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, looked at data from four controlled trials involving nearly 40,000 participants who received EPA with or without DHA as primary prevention. Their conclusion? People should consume between 500 and 1,000 mg of omega-3 essential fatty acids each day.

But omega-3 fish oils aren't only good for your heart. Cold-water fish, such as salmon, halibut and tuna, have been called brain food because their rich omega content supports the high EPA and DHA concentrations in the brain.

Brain food, mood food
Check out the research supporting the brain-food, mood-food connection:
• March 2008 The Journal of Pediatrics reports that DHA during pregnancy supports visual, cognitive and motor development in infants,
• Oxford-Durham Fish Oil Study (2005) found that children with learning difficulties improved in reading, spelling and behaviour when they took a fish oil supplement,
• 2005 Archives of Neurology study suggested that people who ate fish at least once a week had a slower rate of cognitive decline over six years, and
• research published in the Journal of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics tracked 987 test subjects and found that those with the lowest levels of omega-3 fatty acids were more likely to suffer depression — nearly double the rate of participants with the highest levels of omegas.

Sustainable savvy
Protecting the world's fish stocks is a central piece of our planet's biodiversity. Jamieson omega-3 supplements are made using the oil of small species, such as anchovy and sardine, caught by the Peruvian fishmeal industry. Peru's anchovy stock has been sustainably managed for the past 50 years because the government and Marine Institute of Peru impose and monitor responsible-catch policies and constraints. Thanks to the production of omega supplements, nothing is wasted.

Chosen first for nutritional quality, these plankton-feeding species are lower in contaminants compared to large predatory species that accumulate toxins in their fat reserves. The oils used in Jamieson supplements are routinely tested for contaminants, purified and subjected to more than 200 quality-control tests before microencapsulation.
Mediterranean diet in our omega capsule
Since ancient times, olives have been prescribed as naturopathic medications for a variety of complaints from inflammation of the gums to insomnia. Thousands of years of folk medicine have proven relevant today as epidemiological studies indicate a connection between olive oil consumption and decreased cardiovascular disease and certain cancers in Mediterranean populations.

Jamieson Omega-3 Heart Health contains OleaSelect™ an extract from an heirloom variety of olive grown in Italy that contains at least 30% polyphenols, which are believed to prevent degenerative conditions, particularly heart disease and cancer.

Vitality for life
Here's a startling statistic: According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, nearly one-third of all deaths in this country are caused by heart disease, which is largely preventable. Humans may not be able to change genetics and age, but we all have the power to alter many of the factors that contribute to heart disease. Here are some easy steps that you can take:
• quit smoking
manage stress
lose weight
increase activity
follow a low-fat, high-fibre healthy diet, and
• love your life.
