Jamieson Vitamins and Canadian Cancer Society announce sun safety partnership

Published:

TORONTO – April 3, 2017 — Two of Canada's most trusted brands have joined forces to educate Canadians on how to reduce their risk of skin cancer. Today, the Canadian Cancer Society and Jamieson Vitamins announced that they have entered into a two-year marketing partnership to increase awareness of sun safety, including the dangers of ultraviolet (UV) rays and alternative, safer sources of Vitamin D.

Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, is on the rise in Canada. About 90% of melanoma cancer cases are due to UV exposure from the sun or tanning beds.
"Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in Canada but it is also the most preventable," says Robert Nuttall, Assistant Director, Health Policy, Canadian Cancer Society. "In Canada, nobody is safe from UV rays so it was a natural fit to align with Jamieson to help educate Canadians about protecting your skin by checking the UV index daily, covering up, wearing sunscreen and using safer sources of Vitamin D."

A new "Working Together" logo, created by the Canadian Cancer Society, will be featured on bottles of select Jamieson Vitamin D products sold across Canada. Additional details of the public awareness campaign will be unveiled next month.

"We're very excited about working with the Canadian Cancer Society on this important initiative," says Sean Whelan, Assistant Brand Manager, Jamieson Vitamins. "With summer fast approaching, it's prime time to educate Canadians that getting vitamin D from your diet or by taking vitamin supplements is safer than UV-ray exposure."
