Crisp, cool, yummy and refreshing, these summer snacks are a healthy treat for both kids and adults.

Fruit Kabobs

These colourful skewers are simple to make and even easier to serve for any backyard party or soccer game. The versatility of this recipe allows you to use your favourite fruit for the occasion.

You will need:

  • 30 grapes
  • 30 1” chunks of cantaloupe
  • 30 strawberries, tops removed
  • 30 1” chunks of pineapple
  • 30 1”chunks of honeydew

How to Prepare:
1. Wash and drain and prepare fruit.
2. Skewer two of each of the grapes, strawberries, cantaloupe and pineapple chunks in order of your preference.
3. Chill in fridge until ready to serve.
4.Makes 15.

Homemade Yogurt Pops

This frozen treat comes in at less than 100 calories each and it’s guaranteed to be a family favourite on a hot day.

You will need:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup almond milk (or regular milk)
  • 1 cup seasonal berries
  • Combine yogurt and almond milk until smooth

How to prepare:
1. Stir in the berries.
2. Pour into ice pop moulds or small glasses)
3. Place a craft stick in the centre.
4. Freeze for at least 5 hours.
5. Enjoy!
6. Makes 4.

Nutrition Note: Greek yogurt is high in protein and the seasonal berries will give this treat an antioxidant boost.

One Ingredient Ice Cream

Gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan; give this quick, easy and healthy version of your favourite summer treat a try using just this one ingredient!

You will need:

  • 2 large, ripe bananas, peeled and sliced
  • Freeze bananas for at least two hours.

How to prepare:
1. In food processor, blend the bananas until smooth and creamy like the consistency of your favourite ice cream.
2. Add some nuts or honey for toppings if desired.
3. Enjoy!
4. Makes 4 servings.

Nutrition Note: Bananas have been shown to be a great pre and post-workout snack with cardiovascular benefits because of their high potassium content. 1 medium banana contains almost 400 mg of potassium!
