Supplement Tips for a Spectacular Summer Vacation

Supplement Tips for a Spectacular Summer Vacation

Jul 31, 2018

Have you been waiting all year for your summer vacation? Make the most of your holiday by ensuring you are getting the right foods and supplements to help keep you energized to take on the day, and supported for healthy sleep at night. These healthy vacation items will go a long way towards enjoying every second of that well-deserved time off.

Get energized

It’s more than waking up on the right side of the bed

Let’s face it, your holiday diet isn’t necessarily the most nutrient-dense. Most people tend to start their days off with pastries or a greasy breakfast, and while this may be a nice treat, these sorts of meals won’t provide you with the nutrients, or energy, you’ll need to get through your week of fun.

Fortified protein powders are a good way to conquer those days. Whether on a plane, train, or at a hotel or beach, they are super travel-friendly and easily transportable. Just add water or juice and shake it up! These protein powders allow you to consume vitamins, minerals, omega 3s and protein, all in one drink! In some, probiotics are an added bonus, as they can increase your immunity, helping you to avoid getting sick (which would put a serious damper on your holiday plans).

When you need an extra boost

Vitamin B12 may be your answer. We need B12 to help form red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout our bodies. When someone lacks the required red blood cells, oxygen doesn’t move as efficiently, leaving them feeling weak and tired.  When you are on the go, nothing beats B12 strips. It’s as simple as placing them on your tongue, and letting them dissolve. Not only is this a convenient way to get a boost on the go, but it increases your body’s ability to absorb this valuable nutrient. What else? The mint flavour helps you keep coffee breath at bay. We call that a win-win.

Get a better night’s’ sleep

Vacation and relaxation should be one and the same

It’s often hard to sleep on vacation. This can be because of a time change, a new bed, or a general change in environment. The good news is that there are things that can help:

  • A sleep mask will block out sleep-disturbing lights. You can find one at the dollar store, and you can easily make room for it in your luggage.
  • Download a white noise app on your cellphone or tablet before you leave. This gives you the option to have whatever background noise you enjoy, as well as blocking out any unfamiliar, or unpleasant, noises.
  • Melatonin is a hormone naturally produced by our body that helps with our sleep and wake cycles. The pineal gland in our brain makes melatonin when it becomes darker in the evening, allowing us to feel sleepy at night. However, in the summer when the sun stays up longer, our bodies may not produce enough melatonin before bed time. There are supplemental versions of melatonin, so when travelling, liquid spray bottles or fast dissolving strips are ideal options. What’s best? They can help to reduce the effects of jet lag—exactly what you’ll need for a restful holiday.

Confirmation received: you’re booked! Now what?

So get packing these vacation-enhancing wellness items, because your perfect holiday awaits. While you are at it, don’t forget to pack some natural summer skincare. Include a daily face moisturizer, as well as hats, and a water-resistant, zinc-based sunscreen; because no one wants to spend their vacation with irritated, dried-out skin, or worse, a painful sunburn.
