Your Guide to Daily Supplement Essentials™

Sep 07, 2021

We want to be healthy, it fuels us and connects us to the things we love to do.

Health and wellness are something we all strive for. We want to be healthy so we can show up for ourselves and our loved ones. We want to be healthy because we want to be the best version of ourselves. The reasons are truly endless. But sometimes we are held back – from the confusion of navigating the world of vitamin and minerals or it’s just low motivation. That’s why, at Jamieson, we have created a line of Essentials™.

The Oxford dictionary defines Essential as “completely necessary; extremely important in particular situation or for a particular activity”.1 Well Jamieson’s team of scientists and nutrition experts have designed Jamieson Essentials™ – a line of products that are essential for your health and wellness. Each product in the Essentials™ line supports the maintenance of foundational health. So if you’ve ever stood at the health & wellness aisle in your local grocery store and thought to yourself “What the heck do I take?!” Jamieson’s Essentials™ are curated for you! Look for the Essentials™ label on the products to know that it’s supporting foundational health & wellness.

Heart Health

Omega’s are a specific type of fat that the body requires to maintain heart health. There are 3 main types: omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9. They are all considered healthy fats, but omega-3 intake is associated with a low risk of cardiac heart disease.2 Yes, you can get omegas from food, but there is a global omega fatty acid deficiency, especially since most foods in a standard Western diet don’t contain it. For instance, a large portion of our standard diet is grain-based, and the oils used most frequently for cooking and in processed foods are omega-6. Even the livestock are fed grains instead of grazing naturally; therefore, the fats that are found in meat, dairy and eggs are predominantly omega-6. Meanwhile, fish, which Canadians tend to eat less of, provides a good source of omega-3s as EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).

Although we get enough omega-6 in our diet, we don’t meet optimal levels of omega-3. Omega-3 fats are one of those foundational building blocks of our health that shouldn’t be overlooked, as its role in maintaining optimal health has been well documented.2

Did you know that EPA and DHA from Omega-3 have a variety of health benefits? The health benefits of EPA and DHA range from maintaining good health, helping reduce serum triglycerides, helping reduce the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, helping support cognitive health, and promoting a healthy mood balance.3

As healthcare practitioners, we recommend taking an omega supplement as part of your essential foundational nutrition program.   Since essential fatty acids are ‘essential’ nutrients, we know that it plays very important roles in many areas of our health. That’s why Jamieson Essentials™ has Omega-3 with no fishy after taste. It helps to reduce cholesterol and promote heart health4. Jamieson’s Omega nutrition is pharmaceutically tested and free from heavy metals, PCBS, dioxins, mercury & lead. It is also finished with natural lemon essence to make it a fish-free experience!

Gut Health

Our gut houses billions and trillions of microorganisms and the different strains of microorganisms live in the same house with harmony. When it comes to gut health, the balance between the many different strains is key! When strains are eliminated and are not replenished, it can cause the overgrowth of different types of bacteria, which then contribute to uncomfortable digestive symptoms.5

There are many reasons why strains can become depleted. Antibiotics are one reason.  While antibiotics are life saving medications, it’s important to note that antibiotics also kill beneficial gut bacteria.  Stress also plays a massive role in our gut health because it can deplete helpful gut bacteria as well. Another important factor to consider is that it’s difficult to get all the probiotics from food…. You’d have to eat 25 servings of probiotic containing foods to achieve health benefits.6 So when you support your gut with a probiotic, you truly support your whole body, from your digestion to your immune system & even your energy levels! The fact of the matter is, that our gut health is extremely important. And one simple, easy, and effective way to support it is with a Probiotic.

But it cannot be just ANY probiotic. It has to be from a trusted company, that thoroughly researches and sources the best ingredients. Luckily, Jamieson’s Probiotic 10 billion is all that plus more. Jamieson’s Daily Maintenance Probiotic has 10 billion active cells with 14 unique strains making it essential for the daily maintenance of gut health.7 It’s formulated with unique probiotic strains that support digestive health.  And, to top it off, Jamieson’s Probiotics are TRU-ID ® certified. This basically means that it’s been vetted to show that the probiotic species listed on the label are actually in the supplement!

Bone Health & Immune Health

There is one, very unique vitamin that benefits both Bone and Immune Health. If you guessed Vitamin D, you are right! Commonly known as the ‘sunshine vitamin’, vitamin D is unique because it can be made by the body through exposure to sunlight. But our body’s ability to make vitamin D is dependent on many things, like where you live. If you live far from the equator we get less sun exposure, as well as if you live in a region with smog, or have to use sunscreen when you go outside.8,9,10 All of these factors affect how your body will absorb the suns rays to make this all important vitamin. Did you also know that having darker skin pigment or being of an older age can also decrease your body’s ability to produce vitamin D?!9

So how do you know if you need to take vitamin D?  Statistics show that globally there is an abundance of vitamin D deficiencies leading to major health concerns.10 There are only a few food sources of vitamin D such as fatty fish, mushrooms and eggs from hens that have been fed vitamin D.11,12,13, Studies also show that people who take a vitamin D supplement were more likely to have adequate vitamin D levels compared to those not taking supplements.14

As healthcare practitioners, we recommend taking vitamin D as part of your essential foundational nutrition program.   Jamieson Vitamin D3 is an Essentials™ because plays very important roles in many areas of health like bone health, immune health and prevention of osteoporosis.15

Maintaining Good, Foundational Health

Jamieson’s Essentials™ can also support the maintenance of good health. One way of maintaining good health is to ensure you are getting enough of the important vitamins, minerals, and nutrients so your body has what it needs to function optimally. But that’s just not a reality for some Canadians. In fact, many Canadian adults are not getting enough of Vitamin A, D, C, Magnesium and Calcium.16 That’s why we’ve added the 100% Complete Multivitamin for adults as part of Jamieson Essentials™ line.

The 100% Complete Multivitamin for adults is the easy way to get 100% of your body's daily vitamin needs. It is formulated with top notch quality and according to Health Canada's recommended daily allowance of vitamins and minerals, so you can feel confident you are getting 100% or more of the vitamins your body needs each day! 17

We love this one because it is great for men and women.   With the combination of vitamins, and minerals plus additional antioxidants such as lutein, you are getting the foundational support you need!  Other specific ingredients also provide naturally energizing immune defense, setting your foundation up for even more success.  At one per day dosing with food, it’s easy to make it part of your routine.

Another important nutrient for maintaining good, foundational health is Protein. Making sure you have enough protein is important. Protein is the source of amino acids which are building blocks for different components of the body.18 Protein keeps us feeling full, and is needed for hair, skin, nails, organ regeneration, muscle tissue, enzymes for reactions occurring in the body. The goal should be to have 1-2 g/kg or more depending on age and activity level.18 But it can be hard to get enough of it, especially if you don’t consume animal sources of protein.

One way to make sure you are getting enough protein is through Jamieson’s Whey Protein Plus Essentials™. It’s a convenient and tasty way to not only get the protein you need, but also energy! This unique formula is a 4 in 1 as it contains all 4 of the recommended Jamieson Essentials™ – the 100% Multivitamin, 600 IU vitamin D3, 1 billion CFUs probiotic and 350 mg omega-3 from flax PLUS 20 grams of protein per serving. It truly provides the essential nutrients and energy recommended for building a strong foundation for good health. And it’s a great source of protein!19
