But sometimes we are held back – from the confusion of navigating the world of vitamin and minerals or it’s just low motivation. That’s why, at Jamieson, we have created a line of Essentials™.

The Oxford dictionary defines Essential as “completely necessary; extremely important in particular situation or for a particular activity”.1 Well Jamieson’s team of scientists and nutrition experts have designed Jamieson Essentials™ – a line of products that are essential for your health and wellness. Heart Health

Omega’s are a specific type of fat that the body requires to maintain heart health. There are 3 main types: omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9. They are all considered healthy fats, but omega-3 intake is associated with a low risk of cardiac heart disease.2 Yes, you can get omegas from food, but there is a global omega fatty acid deficiency, especially since most foods in a standard Western diet don’t contain it. For instance, a large portion of our standard diet is grain-based, and the oils used most frequently for cooking and in processed foods are omega-6. Even the livestock are fed grains instead of grazing naturally; therefore, the fats that are found in meat, dairy and eggs are predominantly omega-6. Meanwhile, fish, which Canadians tend to eat less of, provides a good source of omega-3s as EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). 

Although we get enough omega-6 in our diet, we don’t meet optimal levels of omega-3. Omega-3 fats are one of those foundational building blocks of our health that shouldn’t be overlooked, as its role in maintaining optimal health has been well documented.2

Gut Health
